What Bose Speakers Can Be Used in a Sonos Upgrade

Writer's picture: Craig WhitakerCraig Whitaker

As many of our clients are upgrading their older Bose systems to Sonos, the most often asked question is “Can I use my old speakers?”. The answer is yes and no. To start, the Bose cube speakers that are part of the Bose Lifestyle systems cannot be used. Those cube speakers are designed as part of the Bose Lifestyle system only. However, Bose cube speakers that are part of a Bose AM-5 and AM-3 speaker system can be used. Note, the cube cannot be connected directly to the Sonos amplifier. First, connect the cubes to the Bose speaker system’s bass module and then connect the AM-5/AM-3 bass module to the Sonos amplifier. 99% of the Bose indoor and outdoor speakers can be used in a Sonos system. If the Bose speaker is a 4-8ohm speaker, it can be connected to the Sonos amplifier. If your Bose system was installed in the 90’s or early 2000’s, it is important to confirm the speaker’s ohms. During that period, Bose had a speaker line that was 1.2 ohm that was part of Bose’s original Bult-Invisible products.
