Earlier this week, a client asked if upgrading to a Sonos Home Theater meant they could get rid of their Bose Lifestyle console. The answer depends on their setup and how they use their system.
If the upgrade is strictly for home theater, then no, the Bose console is not needed. Sonos Home Theater does not require a console or receiver—just the soundbar and subwoofer.
However, if the Bose Lifestyle system is connected to music zones throughout the home, the client has two options:
Fully Upgrade to Sonos – Replace Bose amplifiers with Sonos Amps, creating a whole-home Sonos system controlled by one app. With this option, in most cases, you can use the existing Bose speakers in the music zones.
Run Two Separate Systems – Use Sonos for home theater and keep Bose for music zones. However, this means managing two systems with separate remotes and losing the ability to sync music across all rooms.
For a seamless experience, option one is ideal, as it simplifies control and offers multi-room audio throughout the home.
