This week, we heard from a longtime client for whom we've completed several projects over the years. He was experiencing an issue where he could hear sound through his Bose system but had no picture on his TV. Fortunately, this common problem can often be resolved over the phone, avoiding the need for a service call.
To troubleshoot this issue, it helps to understand how the Bose system works. For devices connected to your Bose Lifestyle console—such as cable/satellite boxes, DVD players, etc.—the audio from these connected devices plays directly through the Bose system. However, the video signal passes through the Bose system and then connects to the TV. In most cases, if you have sound but no picture, the Bose system is functioning properly, and the issue lies with the TV or the connection between the TV and the Bose system.
The first thing to do is confirm that the TV is working properly. To do this, switch inputs on the TV. You should see the input names displayed on the screen, which confirms that the TV has power and is functioning.
If you can see the input names, ensure that your TV is set to the correct input for the Bose system. If you're unsure which input is used by the Bose system, trace the cable from the Bose console to the TV input. Often, the cause of no video is simply that the TV is on the wrong input source.
Once you've confirmed that the correct source is selected, check that the cable between the TV and the Bose console is connected to the “to TV” output on the Bose console. If the cable is connected properly and the issue persists, a service call will be necessary.
