As more people look into upgrading their Bose Lifestyle systems, those with music zones often discover significant differences among Bose amplifiers. First, it’s important to understand that all Bose SA amplifiers can power any 4–8-ohm speaker, whether it’s a Bose speaker or not. Likewise, Bose 4–8-ohm speakers will work with non-Bose amplifiers, such as Sonos amplifiers.
Bose SA amplifiers fall into two main categories: wired and wireless. The wired group includes the Bose SA-1, SA-2, and SA-3 amplifiers, which are compatible with any Bose Lifestyle system that has Bose Link capability. However, these amplifiers require a connection to a Bose Lifestyle system and cannot function as standalone amplifiers.
The wireless group includes the Bose SA-4 and SA-5 amplifiers. There is also a newer wireless option—the Bose Music amplifier, which we’ll cover shortly. The SA-4 and SA-5 are Bose SoundTouch amplifiers, controlled via the Bose SoundTouch app. These amplifiers do not need to be connected to a Bose Lifestyle system and can work independently as music amplifiers. They’re also compatible with other Bose SoundTouch products, allowing for a whole-house audio system.
The latest addition to the Bose wireless amp lineup is the Bose Music amplifier. It operates through the Bose Music app and cannot integrate with any Bose Link or SoundTouch systems.
