Will a new router improve my Internet service?

We had a past client inquire this morning if getting a better router or adding access points will improve their Internet service. The answer is a qualified yes. The qualification is that a better router or more access points can only improve your Internet service throughout your home if you have good service coming into your home. The 1st step in improving your WiFi in your home is to determine the type of Internet service being provided, is it broadband or DSL? What Internet speed are you paying for and are you receiving that speed? The type of service and speed should be shown on your monthly bill. If you have any doubt, contact your provider. Once you have determined service and speed, you can test your speed with your laptop or phone. Many laptops have speed tests built-in or your can download a speed test app to your smart phone such as Net Analyzer. If you are receiving the service and speed that you are paying for and that service type is sufficient for your needs, then adding a new router and access points will improve the Wi-Fi throughout your home.
